As we mark 5 years of the Unsung Hero Awards in 2019, we are looking back at our history of celebrating non-medical staff.

In the last five years, the Unsung Hero Awards have granted 28 awards to non-medical staff from various NHS organisations. Such types of awards as Everyday Hero Award and Patients Choice Award recognise NHS Unsung Heroes who daily help patients to book their appointments, follow the treatment processes and manage their condition more accurately and successfully, with proven clinical outcome benefits. Organised by supporters of healthcare services, the Unsung Hero Awards showcase how non-medical staff are helping to develop the improved NHS. We received over 1000 inspiring stories over the years, with over 2000 nominations that were put forward for the awards across the country.

The 70th NHS’s anniversary was the source of much-deserved celebration of non-medical staff this spring at the Unsung Hero Awards 2018 ceremony. We held an unforgettable event where over 350 attendees were involved including the Lord Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, who has set Manchester as our choice of preference for our next annual Unsung Hero Awards.

The anniversary has also prompted much consideration about the future of the Unsung Hero Awards. We are now set as the community interest company (CIC) that takes a responsibility to shout out loud about every amazing story about NHS Unsung Heroes and bringing them to the attention of the public. Moving forward, we expect to see and promote more and more examples of hard work and dedication that NHS non-medical members deliver. We set our goal to reach over 500 attendees at the upcoming 2019 Awards, including nominees and their nominators, involving Trusts across the UK and Northern Ireland and inviting socially responsible companies to support the event.

We believe that NHS non-medical staff should be given more attention and appreciation, transforming the way care services are delivered. So, if you would like to become a motivational impulse and cause positive changes at the NHS, think of people who work there in non-medical roles that really deserve your support; nominate them for one of our awards and show them and the rest of community how important their daily work is and what sort of people NHS workers should be now and forever. Celebrate #NHS70 once again with us in 2019 and make the upcoming NHS’s 70 years a period of pride for each its member!

It all starts now, it all starts today! We are encouraging everyone who comes across the Unsung Hero Awards to nominate their true heroes! It is your chance to shout loud and proud about their work and get them invited to the incredible ceremony at Hilton Manchester Deansgate on the 1st of March 2019. Let them be first on the 1st!

For this year we have 18 different awards to grab: we are looking for Everyday Heroes, Leaders and Teams who are going above and beyond their call of duty; who routinely demonstrate commitment and passion for their job and deliver an exceptional service. We are also eager to hear some stories about non-medical staff saving other people lives or dedicating their whole career within healthcare sectors to serve for the good.

To get inspired, see who was nominated in the previous years and walked away from us with the shiny trophy. Contact us if you have any questions and we will lead you on the best way to present your nominees and assist you on any issue you might come across.

Get Nominating TODAY and we look forward to welcoming you to the awards ceremony in February 2019.

Good luck!
